Becket Voters Convene for Special Town Meeting Saturday

Becket voters gathered for a Special Town Meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, the only warrant session on the town's September calendar, while the Becket Athenaeum trimmed its public hours for an early closing the same afternoon.

The town's Special Town Meeting convened Saturday at 2 p.m., according to the town's official meetings calendar. Two smaller district sessions also met that morning: the Sherwood Forest Lake District and the Sherwood Forest Road District each held annual meetings at 8:45 a.m.

In a News Flash posting, the town announced a Virtual Design Public Hearing for the Quarry Road bridge replacement project, B-03-045, over a local waterway. The hearing is set for Thursday, October 1, at 6 p.m. Separately, the town flagged two other save-the-date items for residents: a vaccine clinic at Becket Town Hall on October 20 from 4 to 6 p.m., requiring pre-registration, and a SHINE Medicare information session on October 28 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Becket Washington School PTO also announced a fundraiser, the Whiskey Treaty Roadshow, planned for Friday, October 2, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Becket Athenaeum closed early Saturday, shutting its doors at 1:45 p.m. under the library's published 2026 holiday and closure schedule. The library's regular Saturday programming, including Library Storytime with Stay & Play and a Coloring Class, was on the day's calendar as well.

Looking ahead, the Gathered Ground Upstairs Gallery will hold an opening reception on September 26 from 2 to 4 p.m., a new exhibit for area art patrons.

COMING UP

The Becket Fall Family Fun Festival returns Saturday, September 26, with a parade at 11 a.m. followed by festivities from noon to 5 p.m.; a raindate is set for September 27 if needed. The Conservation Commission meets Tuesday, September 22, at 6 p.m., and the Select Board meets Wednesday, September 23, at 5 p.m. The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority's Finance Committee and Advisory Board both meet Thursday, September 24, at Town Hall, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
